Backups and restore

How we back up your files and databases every night, and how you restore them yourself.

If your plan includes backups, we back up all files and databases in your subscription every night. Backups are encrypted and stored outside the web server.

How long backups are kept

Backups Kept for
Daily 7 days
Weekly 4 weeks
Monthly 6 months

The Backups page lists the backups you can restore from, with time, size and the databases they contain. Choose Back up now before a big change, such as an update or a redesign.

Restore files

  1. On the Backups page, choose Restore… next to the backup you want.
  2. Tick Files. Type a folder or file, for example example.dk/public/wp-content, or leave it empty for everything.
  3. Choose where the files should go:
    • In a new folder (recommended): the files are put in a folder named restored-<date> in your home folder. You can compare and copy back exactly what you need with the file manager or SFTP.
    • Back in place, replacing the current files: the files are put back where they were. Files with the same name are overwritten.
  4. Choose Restore.

Restoring takes from a few seconds to some minutes; the Activity page shows when it is done. Remember to delete the restored- folder afterwards, because it counts towards your disk space.

Restore a database

  1. Choose Restore… next to the backup.
  2. Tick the database under Databases. Untick Files if you only need the database.
  3. Choose Restore.

The database is replaced with the copy from the backup. Changes since then, such as new orders or comments, are lost. If you are unsure, export the current database with the database admin tool first.

Your own copies

Our backups protect against mistakes and hacking, but keeping your own copy of important sites is a good habit too: download a ZIP of your files with the file manager and an export of the database now and then.
