Most web apps, such as WordPress, Joomla and webshops, keep their content in a database. Databases are managed on the Databases page.
Create a database
- Under New database, type a name, for example
shop. It gets your account name in front, e.g.c1042_shop. - Leave Also create a user with the same name and full access ticked.
- Choose Create database.
The user's password is shown once. Copy it into your app's configuration or your password manager straight away.
Connect your app
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Database host | The server name shown at the top of the Databases page |
| Port | 3306 |
| Database name | e.g. c1042_shop |
| User name | e.g. c1042_shop |
| Password | The password shown when the user was created |
For WordPress these go into wp-config.php as DB_HOST, DB_NAME, DB_USER and DB_PASSWORD.
Use the server name from the panel as host, not
localhost. The database runs on its own server.
Database users
Under Database users you can create more users and choose which databases each may use. Give each app its own user, so you can change one password without affecting the others. New password creates a new password and shows it once; remember to update your app's configuration afterwards, or it stops working.
The database admin tool (Adminer)
With the database admin tool you can browse and edit tables, run SQL, and import and export databases in the browser.
- Choose Open database admin at the top of the Databases page, or Open next to one database.
- It opens in a new tab, already signed in. You do not need a password.
The sign-in works for 60 minutes and only for this subscription's databases. After that, open it again from the panel.
Export a database (make a copy)
- Open the database in the admin tool and choose Export.
- Choose Output: gzip and Format: SQL, and keep the other defaults.
- Choose Export. Your browser downloads the file.
Import a database
- Create an empty database in the panel first.
- Open it in the admin tool and choose Import.
- Choose the
.sqlor.sql.gzfile under File upload and choose Execute.
Very large databases (more than about 30 MB compressed) may be too big to import in the browser. Contact us and we help you import them.
Deleting
Delete removes the database with all its tables. It can only be brought back from a backup.
