Websites are managed on the Websites page of your subscription.
Where the files are
Each website has its own folder in your home folder. For example.dk the files that visitors see are in:
example.dk/public
Put your index.php or index.html there. Files outside public – for example configuration files with passwords – cannot be opened from the web, so that is a good place for them.
Your home folder also has:
| Folder | Contents |
|---|---|
logs/example.dk/ |
access.log (visits), error.log, php-error.log and, with Apache, apache-error.log |
tmp/ |
Temporary files, for example PHP sessions and uploads |
Add a domain
- Under Add a domain, type the domain, for example
example.com. - Choose what it should do:
- A separate website with its own files and e-mail – a new website with its own folder and DNS zone.
- A subdomain website – for example
shop.example.dk, with its own folder. - Show an existing website (alias) – the domain shows the same website as another domain. Choose which.
- Choose Add domain.
www. works automatically for every domain. The domain must also point to us; see Move your domain to us.
Removing a domain keeps its files, so you can still copy them.
PHP version
Choose Settings next to a website to change it:
- PHP version: choose the PHP version (available: 8.3, 8.4, 8.5) or No PHP (static files) for plain HTML sites. Use the newest version your website supports; older versions get fewer security updates.
- Web server: Nginx + Apache (.htaccess support) reads
.htaccessfiles, which WordPress and most PHP apps expect. Nginx only is a little faster but ignores.htaccess. - PHP memory limit, Max upload size and Max execution time (s): raise these if your app asks for it, for example
512Mmemory or128Muploads.
Choose Save settings. The change is live within a few seconds.
Redirects
Under Redirects at the bottom of the Websites page you send visitors from an old address to a new one:
- One page: from
/old-page.htmltohttps://example.dk/new-page(or just/new-page). - A whole section: tick Also redirect everything under this path, for example everything under
/blogtohttps://blog.example.dk. With Keep the rest of the address,/blog/my-postgoes tohttps://blog.example.dk/my-post. - The whole website: tick Redirect the whole website, for example when the shop has moved to a new domain name.
Choose Permanent (301) when the move is for good, so search engines move their ranking to the new address, and Temporary (302) for a campaign or while you work on something. Redirects work for both http:// and https:// and take effect within a few seconds.
HTTPS
Every website should use HTTPS. See HTTPS and certificates.
